At this year's TAGMA 2026, VJ Precision Molds Pvt. Ltd. is not chasing scale, but sharpening precision. For Managing Director Sonali Chauhan, the company's latest showcase reflects a clear shift in direction.
"We've moved into very precise, smaller moulds," she explains, referring to newly developed connector components. This marks a progression from earlier work in PVC moulds and electrical applications towards more intricate, high accuracy tooling. It is a natural evolution for a young but ambitious company founded in 2022, focused on tooling, moulding and design solutions.
But innovation, in today's climate, is unfolding against a far more complex backdrop.
Global disruptions, particularly ongoing geopolitical tensions, have significantly altered business dynamics. Demand has dropped sharply, Chauhan notes, with several mould projects now on hold. At the same time, suppliers have raised prices, creating a double pressure of shrinking volumes and rising costs.
The impact is stark. A mould that once cost ₹1 lakh now commands nearly ₹2.5 lakh. For manufacturers, this escalation is not just a pricing challenge but a direct hit to margins, especially when raw material costs continue to fluctuate unpredictably.
This environment has forced companies like VJ Precision Molds to rethink how they operate. The focus is no longer only on expansion, but on survival, efficiency and careful investment.
Sustainability, though widely discussed across the industry, remains a more complex journey at the ground level. While many global players are accelerating their transition to renewable energy and greener processes, smaller and mid sized firms are still navigating how best to integrate these changes without adding further financial strain.
Yet, even amid these constraints, ambition remains intact.
One area that stands out is aerospace. Chauhan points to it as a potential growth frontier, aligned with India's broader push towards advanced manufacturing. The "Made in India" movement is no longer just a policy narrative. It is increasingly visible on the shop floor, with international visitors and customers showing growing confidence in Indian capabilities.
"The way India is tapping into different industries is being appreciated globally," she says.
For VJ Precision Molds, the road ahead is not without uncertainty. The transition into high precision tooling, the exploration of new sectors like aerospace, and the need to adapt to volatile market conditions will all test the company's resilience.
But if there is one theme that defines their current moment, it is this: progress, even in difficult times, lies in moving up the value chain.
