Tata Steel's 2nd annual innovation challenge for students concludes

The steel giant collaborates with top institutes to give impetus to innovation with ‘Mind Over Matter’

The winning team at Season 2 of Mind Over Matter

Tata Steel had recenetly organised the Grand Finale of ‘Mind Over Matter - Season 2', a talent hunt for India's next student innovators at Steelenium Hall inside Jamshedpur Steel Works.

Season 2 of Mind Over Matter received an overwhelming participation from 46 top engineering institutes of India including the IITs and NITs. The competition witnessed submissions of 146 idea solutions against a total of 10 challenges (topics) presented. A total of 7 teams (2 students per team) were selected and invited to work with Tata Steel's R&D team under the guidance of assigned mentors as part of their 2-month internship.

Tata Steel has a rich legacy of innovation through Research & Development. In line with its commitment and drive for Innovation, the steel major initiated the programme ‘Mind Over Matter' in 2014 to help provide a platform and enable young budding talents give shape to their innovative ideas.

A total of 7 teams comprising 3 teams from NIT Jamshedpur, 2 from IIT Roorkee and 2 from IIT BHU were selected for the Grand Finale. Pranay Ranjan & Ambar Katyayyaan from NIT Jamshedpur emerged as the winners; Amlan Baishya & Gourav Ranjan Sinha from IIT roorkee bagged the 1st Runners Up position and Sandeep Prasad & Sheeraz Zama Khan from NIT Jamshedpur secured the third slot. Prize money worth Rs. 1,00,000/-, Rs. 75,000/- and Rs. 50,000 for the winners, 1st Runner up and 2nd Runner up respectively along with pre-placement offers were also given.
