Volvo Trucks India Launches LNG-powered FM 420 4x2 Tractor

Volvo Group-Eicher Motors JV commits to smart sustainability by reducing carbon emissions and bringing in new productivity standards.

Volvo Trucks India, a division of VE Commercial Vehicles - a Volvo Group and Eicher Motors Joint Venture, showcased the Volvo LNG-powered FM 420 4x2 Tractor at Auto Expo 2023. This LNG-powered vehicle will ensure timely and speedy delivery and reduce emissions. Volvo trucks aim to set new standards of productivity in the express logistics segment as well as reduce carbon emissions significantly.

Some of the key features include: electronically regulated common rail fuel injection with unit injectors, heavy-duty turbocharger and intercooler, power-assisted push type single plate friction disc clutch, and oil cooler with additional radiator.

The brand will provide sustainable transport solutions and alternate fuels in India with this LNG FM 420 4x2 Tractor, aiming to increase productivity and efficiency levels through smart manufacturing, alternate fuels & Smart Support Solutions in India.

Commenting at the event, Mr Dinakar B, EVP & Business Head, Volvo Trucks India, said, "The National Logistics Policy and Gati Shakti programs clearly lay out a plan to improve logistics efficiency in India and we will contribute positively to reduce the carbon footprint while gaining economic benefits for customers through our LNG-based transport solutions."

Volvo Trucks launched FM and FMX range in September 2021 which was designed to enhance safety, productivity, and driver comfort in the focus segments - mining, construction & long haul. In the mining segment, it offers a comprehensive range of multi-axle tippers and off road dump trucks facilitating overburden removal as well as coal transportation. 

Volvo Tippers are also a proven solution in the irrigation segment and in the road construction segment enabling contractors to optimise the fleet and faster completion of projects. In the long haul segment, the company introduced Volvo FM 420 4x2 tractor to drive productivity and efficiency in the express logistics movement.

Collaborating with the customers and stakeholders to drive efficiency improvement and leveraging the trailer interchangeability concept, these tractors clock up to 25000 Kms a month, which has improved the overall efficiency in the line haul express logistics segment to global standards.
