Kia Motors posts global sales of 252,770 vehicles in May

Its best-selling car in overseas markets in May is the Rio (K2) B-segment sedan

Kia posted year-on-year sales increases in the domestic Korean market a 10.4 per cent growth and in North America at 2.6 per cent growth

Kia Motors Corporation announced its May 2015 global sales figures (export sales, domestic sales and sales from overseas plants) for passenger cars, recreational vehicles (RVs) and commercial vehicles, recording a total of 252,770 units sold.

In May, Kia posted year-on-year sales increases in the domestic Korean market (10.4 per cent growth with 40,010 units sold) and North America (2.6 per cent growth with 69,886 units sold).

Cumulatively through the first five months of 2015, Kia's global sales totalled 1,196,073 units for a 0.0 per cent year-on-year change. Korea (197,572 units sold), North America (285,988 units sold) and China (274,752 units sold) have seen a 7.8 per cent, 3.5 per cent and 0.9 per cent rise in sales, respectively.

Kia's bestselling model in overseas markets during May 2015 was the B-segment Rio (known as 'K2' in China) with 39,365 units sold.

The C-segment Cerato (known as 'Forte' or ‘K3' in some markets) was the second best seller with 33,513 units sold, while the Sportage compact CUV, Optima D-segment sedan and Soul urban crossover followed with 33,205, 30,226 and 17,690 units sold, respectively.

Kia Motors holds official brand launch ceremony in Mexico

Meanwhile, Kia Motors Corporation officially launched the Kia brand in Mexico at a ceremony held in Mexico City.

Around 250 government officials, industry leaders and media were in attendance to witness the ushering in of a new entrant to the local automotive market and a new era of global expansion for the South Korean automaker.

Final details on Kia's entry to the Mexican market were confirmed at the event. The world's ninth largest automaker will commence retail sales at 21 dealerships in 10 major cities across the country on July 1, 2015.

Initially, three import models - Forte (‘Cerato' or ‘K3' in some markets) sedan, Sportage compact CUV, and Sorento midsize CUV - will be available to the Mexican public, with the all-new Optima midsize sedan to be added to lineup in November 2015.
