Honeywell boosts India's first locally engineered petrol turbo engine

Turbochargers can help India improve fuel efficiency and reduce emissions by 20%-30%.

Honeywell Turbo Technologies has partnered with Tata to develop their first ever petrol turbocharged engine. The new Tata Revotron 1.2T engine recently launched in the 2014 Tata Zest delivers best-in-class power and torque and a first-in-segment multi-drive mode.

Honeywell's engineering teams in Pune and Bangalore have leveraged unique local capabilities and global expertise in petrol turbo technologies to address the specific needs of a local customer.

The Revotron 1.2T features Honeywell's second generation petrol turbo technology, which incorporates the latest advances in aerodynamics and bearing systems, and delivers significantly improved fuel economy and driving performance in a 30 percent smaller space, lowering the overall system complexity and cost.

"We are proud to have met the challenge and helped Tata successfully launch its new petrol engine in the exciting new Zest," said Milind Godbole, MD, Honeywell Turbo Technologies, India. "Honeywell has a strong presence in India and embraces its opportunity to contribute to the accelerating ‘Made in India' campaign which is significant for moving its auto industry forward as a global player."

Downsized petrol turbocharged vehicles deliver up to 20 percent better fuel-economy and better torque than larger non-turbocharged engines with similar power output - and can be more fun to drive without sacrificing performance.

Honeywell expects petrol applications will likely drive the rapid adoption of performance enhancing turbocharger technologies in India, just as they are in Europe given that both markets already have very strong turbo diesel penetration above 50 percent.
