The factory manufactures industrial and portable compressors

Atlas Copco has started powering its compressor factory in Chakan, India, almost exclusively with solar cells. The move contributes to the company's goal to continuously reduce the environmental impact from its operations.

The state-of-the-art factory is manufacturing industrial and portable compressors for the Indian and Global market. About 80 percent of the energy used at the facility is now renewable, reducing the carbon dioxide emissions with 600 tons annually.

"Energy efficiency is a top priority for Atlas Copco, and we are proud of how this modern factory in India is setting a new standard for manufacturing facilities," said Vagner Rego, President of Atlas Copco's Compressor Technique business area. "This is a win-win as it benefits the environment and our bottom line".

The facility of 19 000 square meters includes a manufacturing plant and an engineering office building. It was built in accordance with LEED (Leadership in Environmental Energy and Design.)
