Continues to enhance environment-friendly and sustainable production.

Volkswagen Pune Plant is one of the 27 Volkswagen production facilities worldwide which have adopted the ‘Think Blue. Factory.' programme. The programme was adopted in India in 2012 and since then a number of initiatives implemented have yielded fruitful results. Now in the third year, the Volkswagen Pune Plant is well on its way to achieve the targets that have been set for 2018.

‘Think Blue. Factory.' is an integral part of ‘Think Blue.' initiative and focuses on environment friendly manufacturing of cars. The objective of this programme is to use resources more efficiently and to reduce emissions.

‘Think Blue. Factory.' aims to make the manufacturing processes 25% more environment friendly by 2018. This performance is measured across five key measurable areas - Energy Consumption, CO2 Emissions, Water Consumption, Waste Generation and VOC Emissions.

Volkswagen India has shown progress once again in the first half of 2014 in four out of the five defined measurable areas. Since the implementation of the programme at its Pune Plant, Volkswagen India has already achieved more than half of the target in three out of the five key measurable areas, i.e. Energy Consumption, CO2 Emissions and Waste Generation.

Mahesh Kodumudi, President and Managing Director, Volkswagen India Private Limited, said, "We have ambitious goals and by 2018 we want to lower the environmental impact of our production processes by 25%. After being part of this programme for two and half years now, the Volkswagen India Pune Plant has already achieved more than half the target in the key areas of Energy Consumption, CO2 Emissions and Waste Generation."
